Ocean engineering is combination of several types of engineering i.e mechanical, electrical, civil, acoustical, instrumentation and chemical engineering techniques and skills, coupled with a basic understanding of how the oceans work.

Naval Architect and Ocean Engineer also involves in designing various instrument used to assist the operation and maintenance of ships and platforms and to collect ocean environment data in harsh weather conditions from the remote locations.

Skills required to become a successful Naval Architect and Ocean Engineer

Should have enough offshore experience.

Educational qualification

Minimum 12th Class from science subjects (Physics ,Chemistry and Mathematics ) from any board .After completing 12th class clear the engineering entrance examination like IIT-JEE ,AIEEE , state level Pre -Engineering Test (PET) or university level examination to get admission in engineering college and complete your Bachelor of engineering in any discipline or Naval Architect and Ocean Engineering

As Naval Architect and Ocean Engineering is a interdisciplinary programme therefore candidates having Bachelor’s degree in nay branch of engineering and a valid GATE score are eligible to apply for MTech degree.

You can also go for PhD in any specialized branch of Naval Architect and Ocean Engineering .For the PhD Programme ,a Master degree in any branch of engineering is required.

Remuneration

A Naval Architect and Ocean Engineer generally gets 1.5 to 2 times salary than other discipline engineers of same experience ,compensation due to tough working environment.A Naval Architect and Ocean Engineer can get starting salary in the range of 35000/- to 70000/- per month depending on his/her skill , type of industry , and brand name of company.

After having 4-5 years of experience one can get salary in the range of 100000/- to 150000/- per month , again depend on above mentioned factors.After having 15-20 years of experience (salary can be 3,00000 to 5,00000 per month) one can join as consultant adviser in any big organization or start consultancy as an independent body. In Government sector salary is as per Government pay scale and Grade rules and regulations.
